How our two places are connected

Lake Seminole and Lake Okeechobee sit at either end of the Seminole people's story. It began with Creek families moving south from Georgia and Alabama, and the first battle of the Seminole Wars was fought near Bainbridge, just up the Flint River from Lake Seminole. Twenty years later, after being pushed down the length of Florida, Seminole and Miccosukee fighters made a stand on Christmas Day 1837 beside Taylor Creek, a few minutes from our cottage. The Seminole Tribe of Florida still calls the Lake Okeechobee area home today.
